Create a Lesson
Lessons organize content into guided learning experiences. They can mix plays, drills, videos, and quizzes, then publish everything to the player app on a schedule. Follow the flow below to build your first lesson in VReps.
1. Start a New Lesson
- Open Coach Portal → Content → Lessons.
- Click New Lesson and select a template if you want a head start (Warm-Up, Skill Block, Film Study, etc.).
- Name the lesson and add a short description to help other coaches identify it.
2. Define Lesson Settings
- Audience — Choose one or more teams. You can also keep the lesson in draft mode for now.
- Difficulty & Tags — Apply tags for age group, skill focus, or season to improve search (see Tagging & Search).
- Estimated Duration — Helps players plan their time and shows up in analytics rollups.
3. Build the Step List
Lessons are made of ordered steps. Each step supports one or more resource types.
- Click Add Step and choose the step type:
- Play — Attach an existing play or create one on the fly.
- Drill — Outline instructions and reps; attach media for clarity.
- Media — Embed video, audio, or documents.
- Reflection / Assessment — Ask players to submit notes or answer quiz questions.
- Use the side panel to drag and reorder steps.
- Toggle Required if players must complete the step before proceeding.
- Add coaching cues or success criteria so assistants know how to evaluate responses.
4. Attach Media & Resources
- Upload clips directly or paste a YouTube/Vimeo link. The player app transcodes supported formats.
- Reference existing modeling videos so coaches do not need to re-record the basics.
- Use the Preview button on each step to confirm that media loads as expected.
5. Schedule & Publish
- In the Publish panel choose whether to release immediately or schedule a future date/time.
- Decide if notifications should go to players, staff, or both.
- Click Publish Lesson. Drafts remain under My Lessons until you publish.
6. Monitor Engagement
- Navigate to Team → Activity or the lesson analytics tab to monitor completion and feedback.
- Use filters to compare completion by position, age group, or skill tier.
- Duplicate the lesson for other teams or seasons and update only the steps that need tweaking.
Helpful Tips
- Less is more. Three to five focused steps with clear outcomes drive higher completion.
- Alternate between watch/read and do/record steps so players stay engaged.
- If you assign a lesson that depends on a new play, link to that play in the lesson description for easy context.
